The Most Common Problems Our Techs Encounter

Not only are ice makers an appliance of convenience, but they are also simple machines. It is an easy job for our techs to handle.

Paused Or Clogged

Before calling us, there are a couple of things that you can check first. Your owner’s manual will tell you how to check and change the filter in the ice maker and this is something that you can easily do on your own. Also, there are times when the machine can be paused. Sometimes the ice maker will do this on its own and other times one of the kids may have accidentally pushed the button.

Check The Control Arm

Most brands of ice makers have a control arm. This arm raises as the bin fills and lowers as it gets empty. When the bin is full, the arm is raised, and the ice maker knows not to make any more ice. As the arm lowers, the ice maker knows that the bin is emptying, and it will need to be replenished. Check the control arm to see if it is in the right position in relation to how much ice is in the bin.

A Line Might Be Frozen

A frozen line is easy enough to clear up. You have to first turn off the power and water that feed the ice maker. In a few hours, a line that may be frozen will thaw out. You can also use a hairdryer to make this process go a little faster.

If you do this and the problem isn’t remedied, call us. We will take care of that for you.’

The Temperature May Need To Be Reset

If the thermostat of the ice maker is set too low, the water will freeze before it ever is able to make any ice. Check the owner’s manual to see what the proper temperature setting is for your particular brand.

A Valve

If you have checked that the lines are not frozen, the filter isn’t clogged, and that the control arm is responding properly, there is likely a valve that is bad or malfunctioning. This is a repair that should be left to us.

A Leak

This can be caused by the refrigerator is not sitting level or because there is a kink or rip in the water supply line.
